Abstract

Background. Relevance of the present scientific research is caused by an escalating interest to the philological analysis of the art text and revival of an interest to the Russian classical literature. Understanding of classical work’s color depicting as an integral element of its poetics is valuable because the lexicon of color allows most fully to express brightly ideological and art contents of the literary work to define its place in a historical and cultural context of this or that era, and also to reveal features of a separately taken writer’s idiomatic style. The purpose of the scientific analysis is to study a microsystem of red tone in I. S. Turgenev’s novel “Fathers and children” as a transmission medium of psychologism of the occurring events represented in the novel.
Materials and methods. The research was conducted on the color lexicon material received by a method of continuous selection of the text from I. S. Turgenev’s novel “Fathers and children”. The semantic field of color is presented in the novel by 102 color lexems. For the analysis the author took the lexico-semantic group of red tone, represented by 21 color lexems. Methods of the philological analysis, cultural and historical interpretation, the quantitative and symptomatic method were used as the main methods of the analysis.
Results. The research of the lexico-semantic group of red tone in Turgenev’s novel has shown that the lexicon of red tone is sense-forming at the level of poetics; accurately designates three psychological microsubjects of the work, connected with the main images: Evgeny Bazarov; Arkady and Katya; Nikolay Petrovich, Fenechka and Mitya. Through this color locus of a semantic field of color the main public moral and philosophical problems put by I. S. Turgenev in 1860s are revealed and solved.
Conclusions. The microsystem of red tone is actively used by the Russian classic writer as a bright graphic means of expression for the fullest transfer of internal experiences of heroes of the novel, expressing psychologism of occurring events: disputes between “fathers” and “children”, Evgeny Bazarov’s internal conflict, Nikolay Petrovich and Pavel Petrovich Kirsanovs’ relationship and others. Due to creative use of colorful lexicon I. S. Turgenev shows a new person in the image of Evgeny Bazarov, who is inseparably linked with the Russian people, their moral and spirit, the person who is capable to assume responsibility for “what happens at home”.
